The Town of Saugerties, New York, is about 100 miles north of New York City, and is exit 20 on the New York State Thruway. The Village of Saugerties lies within the Town of Saugerties in Ulster County New York. The Town boarders on the Town of Woodstock and is a great alternative to buying a home in Woodstock, because the real estate taxes tend to be cheaper than neighboring Woodstock. If you don't need the perceived "prestige" of buying a home in Woodstock, then Saugerties is for you. It is famous for the 60's album "Music From Big Pink" by The Band, which was recorded there.
